Note to our users:

Because we monitor what is put into the boxes, and because we monitor what has gone out, we are convinced that huge great 'wodges' of literature do not increase the amount or the likelihood of stuff getting picked up.

We can safely confirm that it is not how much is put in the box, it is where the box is and how many people notice it, go up to it, look at it, and then pick up something.

That is what we call; 'Takeage'

We also have useful information about what gets taken, i.e. why brochures go better than flyers, and what percentages of 'Takeage' apply to what types of events.

Thank you to everyone who has a box in their premises, to everyone who trusts us with their literature, and of course to all the customers who regularly take stuff, without your support this scheme would not work, so Thank You!

Derby and Derbyshire arts:info is a simple ‘not for profit’ leaflet display scheme that helps our local arts community - most of whom are of charitable / grant funded status - to reach their audience. The boxes are installed free of charge in locations around Derby and Derbyshire.

By putting everything in one box, we achieve the following:

  • Convenience – One place for information about almost everything that’s happening in Derby and Derbyshire
  • Tidiness - No messy piles of brochures and flyers that just get thrown away, and they’re easier to pick up
  • Economy - Less wastage and more recycling of out of date / unauthorised material
  • Accuracy - Regular updates ensure events are promoted in a timely manner, using measured quantities
  • Growth – We all go out more and benefit both the local arts community and the local economy

This project was started by a grant from the Arts Council England, and its primary users are:

All arts organisations who use this service pay a small one-off fee for us to deliver their leaflets/brochures to each of the boxes, and anything that goes out of date is recycled.

NB: We would love to display everybody's leaflets for free, but we cannot work for nothing so if you put anything in a box without speaking to us about it, your material will be removed and recycled.
